Introduction
Advanced Practice was a corsetry module where the focus was to either make a structured or historical corset. Part of the focus was on the technical aspects of the corsetry such as the techniques used and the relevant materials to create the structured garment. Four practice corsets were made and one of these had to be taken foreword into designing a full outfit that has evidence of creative pattern cutting and drapery.
The corset had to be the main focus of the outfit and become apart of a performance for Christina Rossetti's poem "Goblin Market" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The audience and the performance genre had to be thought about so research was required to create a theme.

Research
Research board into the Victorian Period and Christina Rossetti as the brief was based around her poem the "Goblin Market." The Research included looking at corsetry as this was stated in the brief and I looked into the background of Christina.
Part of the brief was to research into the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as my garment was to be shown at the festival. From this I looked into the types of genres they have and decided on the theme that I wanted to go with. For me this was Burlesque because of my interest in dance.
Second page of the desinger research which has annotations of who the corsets were done by just like the first board. I managed to find different shapes for the leotard style so it would be interesting to see how I would manage to make mine.

Design Ideas
The designer inspiration I used for my design work and design development. As the brief stated that I needed to have creative pattern cutting and draping I decided to do some research into them. I picked out the Lily and branch section of Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market Poem so I wanted to have a go at draping my garment in the shape of the Lily petals or find other ways of creating the shape. I liked the branch idea as I could use it so snake up along the sides of the garment.
Found some images of different coloured lilies to help with some ideas for the shapes of the petals and for the colour palette I may want to use for my final garment. The images of the branches are primary research from my back garden when no flowers were on them. This went with the poem as it is quite dark.
As I didn't know if the draping was going to work I decided to research into the different ways I could use the lily and branches. I had a go at using a stencilling technique using fabric paint, fabric pens and normal acrylic paint. All of them turned out really well but I liked the white and silver fabric paint the best.

Creative Pattern Cutting and Design Development
Creative pattern cutting and draping. This gave me some inspiration for my own draping designs such as using Pin tucks and draping in chiffon fabric. I highlighted the parts of the images that I liked as these were the main things I wanted in my designs.
Chiffon draping development. Out of the fabrics I used I preferred to drape out of the Chiffon as I was able to create garments that I liked out of it. I highlighted the shapes of each draped image as I could see them having potential for the Burlesque genre. I liked the dress that I draped at the end of the lesson and could have used over the top of the corset but at that point I was still playing around with how I wanted my outfit to look.
Skirt Draping using the same chiffon fabric as I did for the dresses. I played around with this a lot such as cutting up the fabric to see how it would fall. I also played around with layers to see how it would look and it was decided that I was going to have a layered skirt with my leotard corset.

Final Designs
Used a figure template to draw my final 6 designs like I did with the other draped drawings on the design development pages. I liked the first design on this page as it would have been good to have a go at trying to drape the whole thing but then it would have depended on the fabric I would want to use. From the drawings that I did do I chose all of these because I could see them being used in Burlesque dancing.
I chose to use the 6th Design for my final design as I liked the style better. I did like the other 3 designs on the page but as it is a performance I thought that the 6th design would be the easiest to get on and off depending on the fastening it will have.
Working drawings of the front and back of the corset and skirt. I haven't put any description on the working drawings as I have put the annotations on the final design page so I didn't want to explain it twice.
